Congratulations to the Spring Lake Rotary Club Student of the Month for February 2019 - Katelyn Allen! 
Katelyn Allen, daughter of Paul and Brenda Allen, has been named Spring Lake High School’s Rotary Student of the Month for February. She was honored by the Spring Lake Rotary at their February 22nd meeting.  
 
Katie has high expectations for herself whether it is academic, volunteerism, or athletics. 
 
A 3.944 gpa has earned Katie a spot on the honor roll every trimester at Spring Lake High School.  Her current course load includes mainly IB courses.  Her passion is the natural sciences which she eventually hopes to earn a doctorate degree in a related field. 
 
Katelyn is a member of Spring Lake’s Interact Club where she has served as president and is currently serving as vice-president. Katie played an important role with the Battle of the Bayou event and is helping organize the upcoming Donkey Basketball game benefitting The Hope Project. She is also a member of the Be Nice group. She has volunteered over 100 hours for the Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival.  Katie also has numerous hours volunteering with North Ottawa Community Hospital, Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Foundation, TCM, Muskegon Rescue Mission and Toys for Tots.
 
In addition to excelling in academics and volunteerism, Katelyn participates in athletics as well.  She was a captain of the lacrosse team as a 9th grader and has been a member of both jv and varsity tennis. 
 
Finally, last summer Katelyn attended the American Legion Auxiliary’s Girls State where she was awarded the Citizenship Award. 
 
After graduation, Katelyn plans to attend Montana State University and study the natural sciences.
