Madelynn Windberg, daughter of Michael and Nicole Windberg, has been named Spring Lake High School’s Rotary Student of the Month for March.
Madelynn Windberg, daughter of Michael and Nicole Windberg, has been named Spring Lake High School’s Rotary Student of the Month for March.  She will be honored by the Spring Lake Rotary at their March 16th meeting.

Participating in sports, volunteering and fund-raising play an important role in Madelynn’s everyday life.  She has participated in basketball, cross country, crew, and track.  While running for Spring Lake, she was awarded the “Laker Award” in cross country both junior and senior year, and earned Second Team All-Conference in both cross country and track during her junior year.  By senior year she worked her way up to First Team All-Conference in cross country and also earned Academic All State status as a senior, maintaining a 3.9 gpa while taking numerous AP courses.  She has recently been awarded an athletic scholarship to Muskegon Community College.

Madelynn is proud of the fact that she excels in creating fun ways to fundraise.  One of those efforts was providing and selling sunflowers with the xc team to provide relief for those suffering from natural disasters.  The team raised $962 from her efforts. Not only does she fundraise but she volunteers her time as well to organizations such as Camp Geneva, American Red Cross, International Aid, and  the Humane Society.  She has also participated in mission trips to Haiti with her church and has helped keep her community clean with annual fall and spring highway clean up days.

Leadership comes naturally for Madelynn as she was voted team captain for both her junior and senior year for the Laker cross country and track teams.  She is a member of Student Council, National Honor Society, Calling All Colors, and Students Live United. Windberg was also selected to represent her class as a member of the homecoming court.

Finally, in her spare time, if she is not fundraising or running, Madelynn is enjoying photography.    In the fall she plans on attending Muskegon Community College where she will run both cross country and track.
